Carp and Koi in Hong-Kong
The story
I was traveling for business in Asia, and I spent a week-end in Hong-Kong. Which is a very impressive city! While I was doing some sight-seeing, I had various encounters with carp & koi, so I thought I would share...
It started by a nice park which meanders between the ultra-modern buildings of the main business area. Sure enough, there was a pond with some nice koi roaming around.
I walked deeper in the city, and found a "Goldfish market" with loads and loads of shops selling all sorts of gold fish.
And then I found the "Mecqua"! The only true carp specialist in Hong-Kong. If you have good eyes, you can read about his success story.
Inside the (rather tiny) shop, there was this amazing pool with hundreds of kois roaming around, and a few commons. Some of the kois were upper teens or close to 20lb. And two commons were undoubtedly thirty-pounders!
I must have stayed more than one hour watching the fish roam in this pool. This was fascinating...
There was also a large aquarium where I took a couple of close-ups. Although there was nothing on the bottom, carp kept sucking it every few seconds. Very good vacuum cleaners!
While walking in a small town on an island nearby, I found a few signs of carp in places I didn't expect. No fishing during the week-end, but it's equally exciting to go through such discovery trip...
